Name Homework
for Friday, Sept.16th

We have just read the book Chrysanthemum in our class. Please have your child tell you about this story.

Please tell your child about their name. Help them answer the following questions. If you could write the answers, and also discuss them with your child. We will share the stories of our names with each other in class over the next few days.

?? Does my name have a meaning? What does it mean?

?? Who chose my name?

?? How was my name chosen?

?? Why was I given my name?
Name Plate Art is a fun way to personalize student names
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Activities

Use the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree and Magnets to play "The Missing Alphabet Game" or mix a couple of letters up to see if they can spot the letters that are out of order

Tear Construction Paper to get the effect of a tree and palm leaves. Use stickers to add the alphabets...Students may also want to make a construction paper sun, moon, grass and coconuts for fun.

Magic C Activities that support Your Printing Practice

A Circle Story Illustration Done with the Class Helps the Students to See How One Event Leads to Another. It is also a great opportunity to talk about sounds that help to print the names of the objects in the story. The Next Circle Story (If you Give a Moose a Muffin) will be illustrated by the students themselves.
The Magic C in "Cookie" also provides an opportunity to use Counting Skills.
Typically, the young Grade One student will forget to say "13" when counting 1-20. So I did a quick assessment by having the students count cookies on a plate.
The "Who Took the Cookie" verse also reinforces class names. We have 4 new students in our class, so it is a great opportunty to see each others names.

Our Writing Centre As we Gain Skills in Printing, I would like the students to understand WHY learning to print can help us communicate to others.

Patterning and Composing patterns is an Important Math Skill that also helps Children to see Patterns in words while Reading.
