Touch Points Help Children to Count On
I have been working with my math class on some basic addition and subtraction strategies. One thing that we have been using is Touch Points. It is just assigning points to numerals for student to count up and back on. I really love it for addition and subtraction practice. One thing that I did to help students understand how to use the touch points was to explain counting on and off like jumping on a trampoline.

Traced Hands and Feet Make Our Thanksgiving Placements
This Lovely Poem is Traced by the Students. We are still learning letter formation, so the poem is a lot of work to print. I provide some children with a template that can be traced to help them learn spacing and how the letters are "1st story", "2nd story" or "basement" letters. In November they will be better able to copy on their own.

The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly provides a great teaching tool for learning about Extending Patterns in Stories.
Each time an animal is mentioned in the story, I clone another image on the Smartboard to show how the pattern "grows". Then we practiced in the class with our clothing, shoes, and eye color to "break the code" for learning about extending patterns. Finally, we got buttons, blocks and manipulatives to build with.
