Teaching... Sharing a Bit of Sunshine Through the Eyes of a Child

Number Families
By using the "Papa, Mama and Baby" as our reference for addends and sums, the students used ART as a fun way to illustrate their math facts.

Inferencing: A Skill for Comprehension

Julius, The Baby of the World, by Kevin Henkes is a excellent story for generating thought provoking emotions when the character, Lily, has to go from an ONLY child to a world where everything and everyone revolves around a new baby brother.  The text shows Lily, trying to cope with her new dilemma. So CUTE to hear the students as they relate their own experiences!

Blue Centre Bins from Ikea with Star Labels
and Management Pocket Chart

I finally found a way to make centre time a JOY!  The students can clearly see which bin to advance to, as their cards are rotated by numbers on the pocket chart daily.  I also had so many games that I had make, but no way of managing them.  They absolutely love their independant time.  I'll have to share the contents of the bins, since they are very skill orientated, but still have a FUN component.

The Best Story EVER for teaching Rainbow Colors, and
How Selfisness and a Good Deed can lead to Happiness

I used my document camera to project this little story, (The Leprachaun Who Lost His Rainbow), onto my Smartboard.  This story lends itself to an element of Prediction as you read how a little girl helps to solve a problem.  It has all the elements of Spring and Weather as well.  The leprechaun's name is Roy G. Biv, go figure!  A MUST HAVE BOOK!
