Fantastic Canada Day Long Weekend in Clear Lake!
Last year at this time, we had to rush home to a National Disaster in Yorkton. Yes, it was official, the entire city was deemed a disaster zone because of heavy rains and flooding. Everyone was flooded. No one was spared. In the wake of 7 inches of rain in one hour, we began the horrendous task of ripping out 2x4s, insulation, walls, carpet, and savaging anything that wasn't floating in a foot of water in everyones' basement. In some cases, people had to evacuate their homes and live in the H/S gymnasiums. We were lucky. We just had to spend the entire summer shop vacuuming, tearing out old wet lumber, sterilizing the concrete, before rebuilding the entire lower level.
So as anyone can appreciate, the chance to try getting away for some R & R again this year, was met with some apprehension. There was, ironically, another storm on the weekend this year, with 1.5 inches of rain and a sudden burst of wind, thunder and lightening. But luckily, it passed and all was spared this year.
NOTE TO SELF: 1) Brace ones self for next July long! 2) Or buy a canoe.
